More Wilko Stores to Reopen as Poundland Shops Nationwide, Prioritising Former Wilko Workers
In a positive development for the UK's high street, more than 60 shuttered Wilko stores around the country are set to reopen under the Poundland brand by Christmas. Among these, three stores located in North Lincolnshire and another one in Stamford, Lincolnshire are set to reopen as Poundland.
Priority Job Opportunity for Former Wilko Workers
The change comes as a glimmer of hope for thousands of employees who were left jobless after retail giant Wilko filed for administration. The transformation into Poundland branches will offer fresh employment opportunities, earmarked specifically for former Wilko workers according to Bristol Live.
First Set of Stores Now Open
The first ten Poundland stores, which were formerly Wilko branches, reopened their doors this past weekend. These include stores in London, Manchester, and Staffordshire. The owner of Poundland, Pepco, has confirmed the reopening of additional branches which would welcome back customers in the near future.
Full List of Stores to Reopen as Poundland
The list of branches that are slated to reopen under the Poundland banner over the coming months are spread across England, Wales, and Scotland and include stores in locations such as Aberdare, Alfreton, Altrincham, Beeston, Bicester, Bolton, Brentwood, Cambridge, Droitwich, Ellesmere Port, Ferndown, Gateshead, Grimsby, Havant, Lichfield, Matlock, Peterlee, Shrewsbury, Stamford, Wembley and Worksop among others.
Rebirth of High Street Retail
In kicking off this venture, these new Poundland stores may well breathe fresh life into the high street retail scene and offer previous Wilko employees a chance to return to work, thereby leading a much-needed retail sector revival.
