Upcoming Wilko Closures to Impact Lincolnshire

Wilko Announces Lincolnshire Store Closures

Popular UK retail outlet, Wilko, has announced it will be closing shops in and around Lincolnshire next week, bringing an end to its longstanding presence in a number of local communities.

On Tuesday, September 19, administrators revealed that an additional 111 stores across the UK will be closing their doors as part of the winding down process, beginning on Monday, September 25.

According to the reports, Wilko is set to phase out 37 stores on Monday, followed by another 37 on Wednesday, and a final 37 on Friday. All 400 of Wilko's establishments across the country are expected to be closed by early October, as confirmed by administrators from PwC.

Staggered Closure Schedule

The staggered schedule of closures will affect multiple Lincolnshire locations throughout the week. Among the first to close is the Louth homeware store, which will shut down on Monday.

Next in line is the Wilko branch in Pescod Square, Boston, which is set to cease operations on Wednesday, September 27. The Newark branch in Nottinghamshire will also close its doors on the same day.

Friday, September 29 will see the most significant number of closures in Lincolnshire, with Gainsborough and Spalding stores both closing. Wilko in Carolgate, Retford, near Gainsborough, is also on the list for the same day.

"I have just finished university and it's where I got everything. I come out to shop for other stuff and Wilko is always here," said one heartbroken customer, echoing the sentiments of many local shoppers who rely on the stores for their everyday needs.

Possible Changeover to Poundlands

In a glimmer of hope, though its future is yet to be confirmed, the Stamford Wilko may escape the cut. Administrators reached an agreement with Pepco on September 12, potentially converting up to 71 stores into Poundlands. But, if saved, the Stamford store would be the only one spared in the county.
