Recycling Boosted by New Bin Scheme in South Kesteven, Lincolnshire

Recycling Boosted by New Bin Scheme in South Kesteven, Lincolnshire

Bin Collection Change to Impact Over 68,000 Residents in Lincolnshire District

In a bid to improve recycling within the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, more than 68,000 residents will have their bin collections rearranged from early February 2024. The adjustment calls for separate collections of paper and cardboard from domestic household recycling.

What Are The Changes?

Householders in Grantham, Stamford, and Bourne, who will be affected by the change, are forecasted to receive new purple-lidded bins for depositing paper and cardboard waste. The bins will be delivered to individuals’ homes in the coming weeks, according to notices from the district council.

“Together, we need to do all we can to help our environment by reducing the amount of waste we produce and reusing items where we can. Our trained SKDC team, in partnership with Lincolnshire County Council, will work hard to help everyone get ready for this change, and we are already hosting information roadshows across the district to put people in the picture," said Richard Wyles, the district council's deputy chief executive.

New Bins to Improve Recycling Efficiency

The purpose of the new system is to enable paper and cardboard to be transported to a dedicated paper mill for recycling into new paper-based products. Currently, paper or cardboard that has been sullied by other types of waste is unrecyclable. Such waste typically comes from mixed recycling bins and can be fouled by food waste, liquids, or broken glass, which leads to inefficient recycling processes.

Silver Recycling Bins Still Required Until February

The council has urged residents to continue utilising their silver recycling bins until February 2024. Information packs providing details of what goes in each bin will be posted out to impacted households.

South Kesteven Joins In

It's worth noting that South Kesteven District Council is following in the footsteps of North Kesteven, East Lindsey, West Lindsey, and the borough of Boston, as one of the last areas to implement the purple-lidded bin scheme.
