Incidents Reported at RAF Scampton Amid Transformation to Migrant Processing Facility

In an alarming turn of events at the former RAF Scampton base, local authorities have been alerted to accounts of vandalism and assault on a security staff member. The base is currently facing transformation into a migrant processing facility. Lincolnshire police received two separate calls over the past weekend relating to the incident.

Vandalism at RAF Scampton

A padlock was maliciously glued shut between Saturday, October 7 and Sunday, October 8. This act of vandalism blocked access to the premises, preventing people from entering or exiting. "It is being treated as criminal damage and officers are investigating,” reassured a Lincolnshire police spokesperson.

Security Staff faced Verbal Abuse

In a separate incident, an unidentified protestor allegedly directed verbal abuse towards a member of the base's security staff at approximately 12.30pm on Sunday.

The man was described to be white, approximately five feet tall with a shaved head and lightly-shaved beard. Accessories to his initiate appearance were a blue fleece and grey shorts, and a Union Jack flag in his possession. Lincolnshire Police departments have issued that this incident is being treated as a public order offence. "We are now following a number of lines of enquiry to confirm the identity of the protestor who will be brought in for questioning once we do," informed the police spokesperson.

Addition Incident Being Investigated

Police are also examining a separate incident on Monday, October 9, where a protestor was reportedly interfering with vehicles and staff at the base.

Lincolnshire Police on Ongoing Protests

The police spokesperson defended the right to peaceful demonstration, stating: "We have a duty to uphold the right of lawful protest, which is a fundamental part of our democracy." The officers clarified that regular patrols are conducted, with the police engaging with residents and protestors on the site since the protests commenced. "When incidents occur, they won't be tolerated and we will take action to ensure the safety of our local community and those working on the site. We will continue to provide advice around safe and lawful protest while they remain at the location," the spokesperson added.
