Police Heighten Presence amidst RAF Scampton Protests

Increased Police Presence at Former RAF Scampton Base Due to Protests

In response to an escalation in protest activities, Lincolnshire Police have confirmed that they will increase their presence outside the former RAF Scampton base. The authorities will be keeping a watchful eye over the ongoing protests and have pledged to bolster patrol operations for the remainder of the week.

Patrol strategy

The police patrols are set to adopt a two-pronged approach, utilizing both vehicles and foot patrols. The aim is to maintain continuous engagement and provide advice on how protests can be conducted both safely and lawfully.

Suspected Crime and Disorder

The police have expressed their commitment to ensuring that protestor behaviour remains within the ambit of the law. This step comes following incidents of alleged crime and disorder earlier in the week, which reportedly involved only a minority of protestors. Swift and stern measures have been pledged against any individual who disregards the law or causes disruptions in the area.

"We understand there are rumours circulating that we have an increased policing presence due to asylum seekers arriving this weekend. This is not accurate; we do not believe that there will be any residents arriving at the centre this weekend, nor do we have a date for their arrival."

Lincolnshire police confirmed that the increased police presence was unrelated to inbound residents to the former base, seeking to address circulating rumours. No date has been confirmed for any arrivals at the base.

Future of RAF Scampton

The former RAF Scampton base is currently in the process of being transformed into a migrant camp. Once completed, the Home Office plans for the camp to host up to 2000 residents.
