Heavy Rainfall Cancels Fireworks Events in Lincolnshire
Several fireworks displays and bonfire events in Lincolnshire have been cancelled due to heavy rainfall and other factors, leaving organisers thousands of pounds poorer in certain cases.
Bourne Fireworks Display Cancelled
Bowthorpe Park Farm in Bourne had a display scheduled for the weekend but had to cancel because of inclement weather conditions. The organisers, Bourne and District Round Table, estimate a total loss of £10,000 as a result of the cancellation; funds that would have gone to local causes.
"For those who have purchased tickets, we want to assure you that we will be issuing refunds."
The organisers express their disappointment in a published social media statement and ask members of the public to donate towards the £10,000 costs brought about by the cancellation.
Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre Event Called Off
Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre in East Kirkby also had their event called off due to the weather. Their event was to involve display of fireworks and taxi runs of the iconic Lancaster bomber and DH Mosquito.
"Customer safety is our primary concern and the condition of the car parks means that we could not ensure the safety of vehicles and customers entering and leaving the site."
The organisers assure ticket holders of a refund while expressing hopes for improved weather during their future events.
Witham St Hughs Display Cancelled
A firework display at Witham St Hughs was also cancelled due to health and safety concerns. The organisers, Witham Vhec, reportedly spent £6000 on fireworks before the cancellation and are now issuing refunds.
"This clearly puts us in a challenging position financially as these events and their supporting materials are not cheap and this cancellation is a significant loss for us."
Consequently, the financial burden has led to the Village Events Committee's decision to dissolve and the cancellation of other expected events.
Upcoming Fireworks Events
Despite the cancellations, there are still a few fireworks and bonfire events expected to proceed as planned. For information about other cancelled events, members of the public can contact [email protected] or visit the Facebook page.
