Lincoln's New Labour MP Appointed Junior Minister in Foreign Office
Hamish Falconer, Lincoln's newly-elected Labour MP, has been appointed as a junior minister in the Foreign Office by Prime Minister Keir Starmer. This comes after Falconer's landslide victory in July's general election, where he secured 18,470 votes, nearly double that of his Conservative predecessor Karl McCartney.
Background in National Security and Humanitarian Relief
Falconer's appointment as Minister for the Middle East and North Africa is likely due to his background in national security and humanitarian relief. His father, Charles Falconer, served as Lord Chancellor under Tony Blair in the early 2000s, providing Falconer with a strong foundation in politics and international relations.
"I am honoured to be appointed Minister for the Middle East and North Africa. I will do all I can to make sure Britain plays a leading role in bringing the devastating war in Gaza to an end and working with our partners to bring about a more stable, secure and prosperous region."
Falconer's new role will focus on promoting British interests in the Middle East and North Africa, while also working towards a more peaceful and stable region.
A Commitment to Lincoln Residents
Despite his new ministerial role, Falconer remains committed to serving the people of Lincoln. He stated: "To the people of Lincoln: I was sent to parliament by you, and I won’t forget that whatever other duties I have, I am here to serve you."
Falconer has also urged Lincoln residents to get in touch with him if they require assistance, saying: "Thank you for your trust. I will do my best not to let you down. I'm dealing with urgent casework enquiries at the moment while I establish an office but if you need my help please do get in touch and I'll do everything I can."
