Iconic Butlin's Redcoat Uniform Receives a 2024 Makeover

Iconic Butlin's Redcoat Uniform Receives a 2024 Makeover

Butlin's Overhauls Redcoat Uniforms for 2024

The iconic Redcoats at Butlin's are set to receive a uniform revamp come 2024. The new attire will be a 'smart casual' ensemble crafted from recycled fabrics, boasting improved stretch and breathability features.

For the first time since 2011, the stewards' recognizable look is getting a tune-up. The redesign will provide Redcoats the flexibility to interchange individual pieces such as polo shirts, trousers, jackets and gilets.

TV Entertainer Stephen Mulhern Unveils New Uniform

Television entertainer Stephen Mulhern, who began his entertainment career as a Redcoat, was on hand to introduce the new uniforms. Mulhern, who is commemorated with a statue at the Butlin's Minehead resort, acknowledges his Redcoat role as a significant part of his career.

"Working as a Redcoat in Minehead played such an important part at the start of my career and I recommend this experience as the perfect platform to anyone looking to get into the entertainment world. I know first-hand just how much work goes into the role and providing the best holiday experience for families and how fun it truly is," Mulhern said. "I also know how much pride the brand takes in its uniform, with only trained Redcoats allowed the honour of wearing the jacket, so it’s brilliant to have the privilege of launching the new uniform."

Introduction of the 'Redcoats Academy'

Along with the new uniforms, Butlin's plans to inaugurate the 'Redcoats Academy' in 2024. This programme targets individuals eager to leap forward in their entertainment careers, offering courses in vocal performances, dancing, DJing and street theatre.

"We know just how fun and rewarding being a Redcoat is and want to ensure we’re equipping our wonderful new recruits with the skills and experience they need to get the most from the role," said Mike Godolphin, Entertainment Director at Butlin's. "The all-encompassing training programme is a one-of-a-kind experience that we're thrilled to be able to offer."

The new, more modern uniforms are a creation of London-based outfit designer Jermyn Street Design. Set to be deployed at each resort from January 2024, auditions for Redcoat positions will take place nationwide this November, featuring an 'energetic 60-second piece' performance requirement for all participants.
