Lincoln Council Submits Plans for Major Housing Project
The City of Lincoln Council has taken the first step towards a major development project, with the submission of plans for new housing. This submission comes as part of the Western Growth Corridor (WGC) project, which received outline planning permission from the city council in January 2022. Aiming to tackle some of Lincoln's traffic issues, the WGC project is set to offer 3,200 new homes, a business park, transport infrastructure, and a neighbourhood centre.
Initial Housing in the Project
The first reserved matters planning application has been submitted for the Skellingthorpe Road site. It details 52 new two and three-storey homes, spotlighting a wide assortment of housing types and sizes. Labelled 'Phase 1A' development, it will be part of further consultations within the overall planning process.
High-Quality, Sustainable Development
Endorsing the development, the council aims to offer attractive, energy-efficient homes that respond to the demands of modern life. By collaborating with Lindum Homes, the initiative will ensure the proposed homes are well-insulated and self-sufficient, supplied with air-source heat pumps, solar panels, and EV charging systems.
WGC Homes' First Phase Timeline
The initial works for creating southern access to the first phase of WGC homes started in July 2023. The completion of these works is set for Summer 2024, establishing a signalised junction onto Skellingthorpe Road as the main gateway to the new homes.
"This is a significant milestone for us as a city council within the overall 35 year plan for the Western Growth Corridor," said Councillor Naomi Tweddle, Portfolio Holder for Inclusive Economic Growth at City of Lincoln Council.
She also stated her excitement at the prospect of such widespread change in their local area, acknowledging the council's role in driving the development in a sustainable and feasible way since 2016. Tweddle recognises the Western Growth Corridor as the focus of their vision for the city, integrating all their priorities and objectives.
"It is also the single biggest development area within the city boundary. These first 52 homes will be monumental in the creation of this inclusive and sustainable new community within the heart of Lincoln."
